Genuinely asking, because i've probably been doing this wrong for two years. Small home goods store, maybe 25 orders a day when something goes missing after the carrier marks it delivered, i just reship it. carrier won't pay, customer didn't do anything wrong, so it comes out of my margin. it was 4 or 5 a month and i ignored it.
